The Last Eagle's Take Off

I

After 1995, the Philipline Eagle was recognized,

It became the National Bird, magnificently designed.

Standing two and a half feet to a more or less three,

Spreading six and a half of its wing, just to be spanned free.

II

They eat a lot, preferably monkeys and snakes

They hunt in pairs, tags as hunters and baits,

Balances population, eating top animals within food chain,

Flying then risking lives, with wounds and some strains,

III

Despite its nature, of becoming a top predator,

Was listed endangered, stealing its life and its favor,

Shoot to death, deprived the rights to live in the jungle,

Have seen human presence as a cage and their struggle.

IV

How can we limit their wings and its strength?

How can we starve them with our greed, then took rent?

We must hear and understand their soar as they fly,

We must not let the last wing be tired just to try.

V

After 2050, I do hope they will still roam around our land,

I hope it is still the National Bird with its majestic brand,

It is a part of who Filipinos were made of,

Sharp enough to rethink, to stop the last Eagle's take off.
