Military official red-tags activists at CvSU-NSTP webinar

Mere days after a senior military general red-tagged actors Liza Soberano, Catriona Gray, and Angel Locsin, the NTF-ELCAC once again red-tags activists and progressive groups at what is intended to be a National Service Training Program (NSTP) orientation at the Cavite State University yesterday, October 24.

Colonel Erwin Alea, one of the invited speakers for the NSTP orientation, represented the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NFT-ELCAC) at the webinar. In his presentation on the Strengthened Alliance on Fight Against Illegal Drugs and Terrorism (SAFER), he blatantly tagged progressive organizations as communist terrorists.

The webinar was intended to tackle the fight against illegal drugs and terrorism, however, Alea presented the talk entitled “Orientation on the youth and the student recruitment of the CPP-NPA-NDF”.

Through his presentation, Alea showed a video clip on communist recruitment while also revealing composite images of activists. He repeatedly stated how the recruiters target students, especially newbies, warning them not to get involved with groups such as the League of Filipino Students (LFS), Anakbayan, Kabataan, Gabriela, the College Editors Guild of the Philippines, (CEGP), and the National Union of Students in the Philippines (NUSP).

As he ends his talk, Alea yet again warned the students of what could happen to them if they engage themselves with these groups and echoed how they should stay loyal to the government since they receive free tuition.

"Walang kaliwaan kung ayaw 'nyong matulad sa mga ibang iskolar ng bayan na maagang namatay dahil sa pangangaliwa”, a slide in his presentation stated.

The said webinar was streamed in a private Facebook group for the university’s NSTP-1 class attended by over 1,000 students—mostly freshmen students—of CvSU’s main campus in Indang Cavite.

In a statement, the Central Student Government of CvSU Main Campus vehemently condemned the attacks of NTF-ELCAC to mass-organizations saying red-tagging has no place inside their campus, also called on University President Dr. Hernando Robles and the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS) to clarify their true agenda for allowing such incident to happen during the orientation.

Student organization CvSU Kilos Na also called the university administration to be held accountable for letting Alea red-tag progressive groups and individuals during the webinar.

LFS-Cavite also slammed Alea’s “baseless” red-tagging calling out Robles for allowing the academic institution to become instruments in suppressing the youth.

“Hindi nararapat na magpagamit ang mga akademikong institusyon upang maging instrumento sa kaliwa't kanang pagpapatahimik sa hinaing ng mga kabataan sa inhustisya at kapabayaan ng gobyerno,” LFS-Cavite said.—Chrisha Nicole C. Acal/The Freehand News
