Archi students present research at ICBE 2021


Second-year students under the class of Dean Jocelyn Rivera-Lutap represented PUP’s Architecture department in an International Conference for Built Environment 2021 (ICBE 2021) hosted by Jindal School of Art and Architecture (JSAA) in India via Virtual Conference last September 17-19, 2021.


The said 3-day international conference addresses issues concerning built heritage, architecture theory, dwellings, representation, building practices, and other related resources. It was attended by some distinguished keynote speakers, who do lectures, panels, and the JSAA Research Committee.


The following are the students and the titles that they presented for the second session of the conference’s second day, tackling the topic ‘Building sites that manifest’:

• "From Power to Architecture: An Analysis on the Identity Transformation of Tagaytay’s People’s Park in the Sky through Panopticon and Democratization Theory" by John Benedict Castillo

• "Filipino Architects and Their Timeless Attachment to Beliefs and Practices in House Construction" by Toshikaso V. Ancheta, Samantha Claire T. Bautista, and Joji Marian I. Lasarte

• "Analysis On the Transition of Juan Arellano's Architectural Works from Neoclassicism to Streamline Modern" by Kyle Mari M. Cardenas, Ana Claire P. Hernandez, and Mark Franco G. Lim

• "Principle Of Second Man: An Analysis on The Architectural Evolution and Conventional Development of The Quiapo Church" by Jovee Mae S. Antone

As for the third session, ‘Comfortable Spaces, Evolving Types,” the following students presented their titles:

• "Changes In Filipino Households and The Concept of a Filipino Home Brought by The On-Going Pandemic" by Karen Andrea Flores, Cheena Rei Guerrero, and Kamile Ilag

• "Analysis On the Effect of Pre-Pandemic Classroom Environment" by Stacey Ong, Ma. Allysa Aquino, and Justine Trina Ordoña


On the third day, following the topic 'Ways we dwell," Rose Ann Katigbak, Benz Joshua Labang, and Heraya Sapallo presented their research entitled "Re-Designing Existing Pup Toilets into Gender Neutral Sanitary Rooms: Addressing Gender Equality and Inclusiveness".


Followed by Kimberly M. Requilman, Nhoelle S. San Pascual, for a different session regarding ‘Politics of Urban Phenomena’ with their research: "An Analysis of Advantages and Disadvantages of Vertical Housing in This Time of Ever Narrowing Spaces in Areas of Manila". The final research on ‘Processes around Built Heritage’ was presented by John Cedierick P. Abarca, Raydett Kelly C. Ronquillo, and John Dence S. Suizo, entitled "A Pilot Site Approach for Built Heritage Diagnosis".


The said participants were chosen to go along with different schools from around the world in their chance to share their knowledge in the field of design and to the development in the study of Architecture. #Inform
