Life, profound and unpredictable, often takes unexpected turns, especially when it challenges our aspirations. Yet, for Mr. Jherald Turno, a passionate CADBE student who fearlessly confronts self-doubt, life's trajectory defied expectations and veered in a perpendicular direction.
Recently, Jherald Turno, a first-year architecture student of the College of Architecture, Design, and the Built Environment, achieved a milestone for his career and became a source of pride of the entire CADBE community. On November 8, he was announced as a “Blue Sapphire Awardee”, a recognition that extended beyond the perimeter of the campus and the islands of the country and reaches all the way from Indonesia. According to Mr. Turno, this recognition is bestowed by a community of talented visual artists from different nations, about 10,200 artists. His inclusion in this warm community of visual artists is attributed for his mentor, the CEO of Q Arts International, who has faith in him and is keenly dedicated to see him grow as a student and an artist.
Turno's journey reached new heights when he secured the title of "Blue Sapphire Awardee." In a heartfelt reflection on his unexpected success, he expressed his indescribable happiness. This triumph, he revealed, emerged from his entry into a broader, more competitive season, where the theme was left open for interpretation. With humility and surprise, Turno shared how he submitted a piece related to Visual Techniques 1, a move he did not anticipate would lead to victory.
In a recent interview, Ar. Jun Maghirang, Turno’s professor in the Visual Techniques 1 course described him as a very confident student. Ar. Maghirang shared, “He (Jherald Turno) is (a) very confident student, knowing that nagpakilala agad siya sa akin bilang aktibong sumasali sa mga art contest/competition.” Turno is proud to share his artworks and relive his achievements with his professor. Ar. Maghirang is rooting for him to continue crafting creatively his life and succeed, much like a father supporting his child, “Ipagpatuloy mo lang ang nasimulan mong talento sa pagguhit na magsisilbing panimula mo sa larangan ng arkitektura. Itaas mo lalo ang antas ng pagkakilala na mahusay ang isang PUPian. Itaas mo lalo ang antas ng pagkakilala na mahusay ang isang PUPian,” emphasized Ar. Maghirang.
Eager to seize life to its fullest and glean once-in-a-lifetime lessons, Turno is poised to partake as the representative of NCR in Philippine Association of Universities and Colleges (PASUC) in the painting category. Offering his wisdom to fellow CADBE students, Turno advises, “As long as natututo tayo sa pag kakamali natin hindi ‘yun failure, laban lang palagi at maa-achieve (rin) natin ‘yung mga pangarap natin kasi walang successful na hindi nagkamali,” a resounding proclamation delivered in a tone resonating with the pride of his accrued courage.
In the grand tapestry of Turno's artistic journey, from the classrooms of CADBE to the international stage, his story is not just a narrative; it's an inspiration, a testament to the power of passion, mentorship, and the indomitable spirit that defines the heart of an artist.
